Gatherings

Purpose

This is an activity I learned in Alternatives to Violence (AVP). It is a great tool in bringing the group together, and getting the less vocal members to contribute.

Procedure

  1. I pick a sentence relevant to the class that day. (See examples below) I either write it on the board, or say it out loud.
  2. We then go around the room. I'll usually start.
  3. Each person says their name, and then completes the sentence.

  • One sub-personality and one quality of the core self that I see in myself are ….
  • One thing I need to feel safe in this group is…
  • One way I deal with my anger constructively is …
  • A person or circumstance from my childhood that influenced me in a positve way is…
  • A person or circumstance from my childhood that influenced me in a negative way is…
  • One thing I can do to strengthen my connection to my core self is…
  • One resentment I'd like to let go of is ….
  • One thing I have learned from taking this class is …
