Making Good: How Ex-Convicts Reform and Rebuild Their Lives by Shadd Maruna

This book describes the Liverpool Desistence Project which asked the question "Who succeeds when leaving prison?" Researchers interviewed inmates when leaving prison, asking them to tell their life stories. They then looked for common themes in the stories of men who succeeded in staying out of prison. What they found was a common theme of a "Redemption Story" Men who succeeded changed the way they understood themselves and the way they made meaning of their lives. I include a discussion of this in my final class.
